Executive Director’s Job Description
The Director is responsible to the board of directors and reports directly to the president of the board.
The following is an outline of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Director.
Daily Duties: Daily duties include managing the chamber office and visitor center, management of programs, membership, events and marketing efforts, and supervision of visitor center volunteers.
Website and social networking sites should be reviewed and updated as needed each day and then ensure completion of regular duties as listed below.
During the day, the director is expected to attend to member requests and questions and ensure the office is clean and supplies are kept stocked.
Committees: The Chamber Director serves on the following committees: committees may change based on the need of the chamber.
1) Website committee 6) Festival Committee 2) Tourism committee 7) Salem Rotary -chamber covers all Rotary dues 3) Budget committee 8) Planning and Zoning Board 4) Rodeo committee 5) Annual Membership committee Regular Duties: 1: Prepare, edit, and submit advertising and press releases for chamber events and functions.
1a: Prepare, design, submit advertising for Salem and Dent County to heighten tourism to our community.
Work with the Dent County Tourism Tax Commission for funding of projects.
Mail visitor guides to visitor centers around Missouri to promote tourism.
2: Promote new membership and coordinate the monthly membership and board meetings.
2a: Coordinating a speaker and catering for the annual membership meetings.
2b: Prepare agendas, minutes, and report for the chamber board meeting utilizing a standard format.
3: Assist committee chairperson as needed with event planning and coordination to ensure that each event is successful.
4: Develop short-term and long-range plans to increase membership and promote tourism.
5: Secure donations and sell tickets for chamber events.
5a: Work chamber functions such as: Chamber Expo, Rodeo, and Parades.
5b: Schedule and promote chamber member events: Luncheons, Business after Hours, Jumpin’ Java, Ribbon Cuttings, and Grand Openings.
6: Develop and maintain minutes for chamber meetings, task to be completed and timeline for events.
7: Collect payments and deposit payments, use QuickBooks to write checks for bills and payments, record debits, purchases, or deposits.
8: Manage the distribution of tourism materials and local event information to local businesses and tourist attractions.
9: Attend events and trainings as directed by the board as a representative of the chamber.
Attend Missouri Chamber of Commerce, US Chamber of Commerce, and local district Chamber of Commerce meetings as they pertain to position.
9a: Host informational booths at events to promote the Chamber/Visitor Center, Salem, and Dent County.
10: Develop a budget that relates to program goals and objectives for Board approval.
Oversees all expenditures of the Chamber.
11: Ensure coverage of the Chamber and Visitor Center.
- Effective 3-25-2021 the Chamber/Visitor Center will be open Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 and have seasonal Saturday hours 8:30-12:30 while receiving support from the Dent County Tourism Tax Commission – the seasonal hours will be from March- September or as directed by the Tourism Commission.
12: With guidance from the board, the Director is responsible for hiring, scheduling, and supervision of the office personnel, assigning their duties, and overseeing completed work.
12a: Recruits, motivates, and organizes volunteers for the Chamber/Visitor Center.
13: Work with the Dent County Tourism Commission for ongoing support of Chamber/Visitor Center located at 1136 S Main St.
14: Manage and update digital billboard to advertise Salem and Dent County to tourist and our local community.
Create material that will be displayed on digital billboard.
15: Provide weekly E-blast to members keeping them updated with current chamber news, events, networking opportunities, and business support.
16: Manage and update kiosk to advertise and provide information about Salem and Dent County to tourists and our local community.
17: Build and maintain strong relationships and communications with the Board of Directors, City of Salem, Dent County, Tourism Commission and Chamber Members.
Skills - Demonstrated success in business development, member recruitment and fundraising.
- Management skills: people, financial, project and event.
- Administrative and organizational skills.
- Interpersonal skills - Politically savvy; ability to tactfully work with differing opinions.
- Problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications - Three-year’s experience in a related field of work; business administration, management or another business-related field.
- Event planning.
- Reliable attendance.
- Able to use: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Internet browser, QuickBooks, and other necessary programs needed to accomplish the job.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $32,000.
00 - $42,000.
