This position is responsible for driver and warehouse personnel supervision, delivery vehicle fleet maintenance scheduling, daily load dispatch, route costing/planning, appropriate inventory storage, and facility maintenance.
This position is also responsible for ensuring high levels of customer service by managing deliveries in alignment with the company’s on time delivery (OTD) goals and by executing toward customer’s delivery expectations.
The Plant Manager is additionally responsible for the effective management of safety programs in accordance with Wallis Companies safety policies.
The Plant Manager will occasionally travel to customer sites to monitor tank changes, delivery needs, and other customer related issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES BY COMPENTENCY: (*denotes an essential function of the position) Business Results Orientation *Ensure local fleet operations are in full compliance with DOT regulations, including maintaining appropriate driver qualification files and vehicle maintenance logs *Optimize use of warehouse space and, in conjunction with Supply Chain Department, optimizing bulk storage based on usage and tank capacity *Dispatch to effectively evaluate multiple selection criteria, including location, products, hours of service (HOS) limitations, available vehicle space, and other variables to ensure daily execution of accurate, timely and profitable delivery routes *Ensure inventory accuracy is being maintained at the plant level according to operational goals Ensure company’s compliance to supplier and regulatory quality programs *Administrate adequate financial controls related to petty cash, inventory, invoice receipt, and billing *Scheduling of staffing/duties to ensure efficient deliveries and response to internal and external customer requests Analyze and track performance goals to maximize resources and identify opportunities for improvement *Evaluate processes, equipment, and facility capabilities to improve efficiency and effectiveness to achieve company’s warehousing and distribution objectives *Analyze feedback from internal and external customers to measure and improve order delivery accuracy and on-time performance *Maintain regular attendance and follow designated safety practices Perform other duties not listed as required Communication *Process, distribute, and reconcile sales orders accurately and timely for warehouse operation and delivery *Communicate in a professional, effective, and appropriate manner with internal and external customers, vendors, suppliers, employees, etc.
Present operational results and strategic recommendations to management Facilitate timely communication of driver performance and customer issues with appropriate parties and work to resolve issues *Coordinate and communicate with support services, supply chain, and sales departments as necessary Communicate with the plant’s sales team to ensure safe delivery operations that meet or exceed customer expectations *Communicate applicable operational goals to division and drive performance to meet goals *Solicit feedback from internal and external customers regarding product and service performance Customer Service Orientation *Monitor and improve customer satisfaction service levels related to their scope of the business *Ensure orders are packaged, pulled, and loaded to ensure accurate deliveries and ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded *Ensure deliveries are of the highest quality and received in committed timeframe Handle all customer phone calls in a professional and respectful manner Developing Talent *Develop a competitive and motivated organization creating an environment for high-performance *Ensure performance appraisal system is executed according to company standards and coaching is ongoing throughout the year *Coach and document drivers on incidents relative to policy or government regulation violations as well as performance *Ensure drivers and warehouse staff are trained on and adhere to policies and procedures defined by company policy Attend training to further professional development and understanding of company goals and strategy Contact Human Resources for advice or assistance in hiring, counseling, appraising, or terminating as necessary *Complete training as required to meet regulatory compliance and company guidelines Technical Expertise *Maintain and enhance skills and knowledge related to operations management, driver management, distribution, and compliance to industry regulatory and supplier requirements *Maintain and enhance knowledge of company’s product integrity system to ensure that products are received, stored, packaged, and delivered in adherence to all vendor and regulatory guidelines Diligently investigate new technologies, industry tools, and vendor products to improve and positively affect department processes and procedures *Maintain knowledge of and follow all DOT rules and regulations, terminal policy and procedures, and any other applicable regulations *Maintain up to date knowledge of industry specific software and pumping/delivery systems Safety Conduct monthly safety meetings and engage direct reports in value added discussions *Ensure proper safety procedures are being practiced daily and in compliance with all government regulations *Strive to avoid preventable accidents by identifying and correcting safety deficiencies in a timely manner *Complete safety training required for this position *Investigate and report all customer injury, property damage, and environmental incidents immediately to management including identifying the conditions responsible and corrective action needed *Follow company procedures and processes related to all work-related injuries *Adhere to all Wallis Companies safety policies and report all safety incidents to supervisor immediately SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Direct: Lubricant Driver (5-10), Warehouse Assistant (1-2), Warehouse Quality Specialist (1-2) Indirect: None Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of each position.
The position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; managing development and certifications; appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees up to and including termination with supervisor’s approval; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
