*Position Overview:*
This position functions independently and exercises critical nursing judgement to ensure the provision of quality nursing care and health education in accordance with best nursing practices.
This position is responsible for carrying out various job functions for Public Health Nursing Programs.
Duties may include but are not limited to: Communicable Disease surveillance and investigation including STD/HIV Counseling and Testing, Immunization clinic staffing, working with the Maternal Child Health and Child Care Health Consultant programs and Community Health Education.
*Essential Functions*:
* Assist in planning, directing, developing and evaluating community health programs in the county as they pertain to communicable disease surveillance.
* Provide health education to individuals, families and community groups in various settings
* Serve as a resource for area healthcare professionals, schools, daycares and the public by responding to requests for information.
* Conduct both active and passive surveillance for health problems and hazards such as communicable diseases; and utilize evidence-based sources and plans of action to address these issues.
* Collaborate with other health care professionals and service providers to ensure optimal patient care and control the spread of disease.
* Document nursing interventions, therapeutic measure administered, patient's reactions, patient teaching and understanding.
* Give immunizations according to CDC guidelines.
* Schedule and perform lab draws following physicians order.
Follow up with physician and clients as indicated.
* Perform urine pregnancy tests, provide appropriate counseling/referral information to clients and assist with completion of Medicaid presumptive eligibility applications as needed.
* Administer and read TB skin test.
Follow –up on suspicious and positive results in a timely manner according to protocol.
* Check for and demonstrate method used in detecting head lice.
Provide evidence-based information and support in eradication of infestations.
* Attend meetings, conferences and workshops to further professional competence.

*Qualifications & Skills: *
_MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:_
* Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing *OR *with an Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing *OR *completion on a Nursing Program at an accredited diploma school of Nursing.
* Must possess and maintain a license as a Registered Nurse from the Missouri State board of Nursing.
_PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:_
Public Health experience preferred, but not required.
Good oral communication skills
_TRAINING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: _
* Develop an individualized training plan based on the results of a Core Competency Assessment.
* Complete 8 contact hours related to the individualized training needs identified in the training plan.
