The Certified Nurse Midwife, in collaboration and consultation with physicians, staff RNs and other health care professionals, provides holistic, compassionate care to Members and families.
The Certified Nurse Midwife practices within the context of collaborative management with a physician(s) in diagnosing, managing, and preventing acute and chronic illness and disease, providing direct prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and/or well women patient services and primary care to low risk obstetrical and gynecological patients.
Certified Nurse Midwifes have an advanced nursing practice that includes independent nursing functions based on the applicable Scope of Practice, nursing standards of care and a role in medical management within a collaborative agreement with a physician(s).
The Certified Nurse Midwife practices in accord with the Standards for the Practice of Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
This specific position is a full-time position that can be 5- or 4-day work weeks, with some work flexibility available.
Additionally, this position includes office and taking Call.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: • Manages women's health care, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and the family planning and gynecologic needs of women following a predetermined protocol in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician • Manages normal labor and delivery under indirect and direct physician supervision • Manages inpatient and outpatient postpartum patients • Develops treatment plans, treats patients with acute problems including illnesses and minor injuries • Recognize and manage minor gynecological disorders according to established patient care protocol • Identify and record the anatomical and physiological changes occurring in pregnancy, and determine the progress of the pregnancy; management of normal pregnancy in collaboration with delivering providers • Select and administer contraceptive needs to include birth control and LARCs • Recognize, prevent and manage cases of sexually transmitted infections with appropriate follow-up • Interprets laboratory and other diagnostic data and recommends appropriate treatments or actions for follow-up, reconciles medications • Responsible for providing emergency after-hours call for Labor & Delivery, Emergency Department and phone triage • Participation in inpatient rounds • Is compliant with OSHA, State Board of Nursing, American Midwifery Certification Board • Participates in all mandatory compliance and other training programs, seeks guidance for compliance-related concerns and adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures • Practices in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal laws which govern confidentiality and medical information privacy regulations (HIPAA) POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Baseline Clinical Knowledge • Preferred 1-year clinical experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife including Labor & Delivery • Proven ability to perform comprehensive physical examinations of patients, to include gynecological exams • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and treat acute, episodic or chronic illnesses • Demonstrated ability to assist with inpatient care, including postpartum care • Proven ability to pursue feedback, continuing education and professional development • Ability to effectively reconcile medications and prescribe all necessary medications and treatments • Demonstrated ability to identify and document the needs of clinically complex Members Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Must be able to demonstrate computer skills, including use of e-mail and Microsoft office word and excel • Must be able to demonstrate effective written communication skills including but not limited to writing reports and correspondence • Must be able to demonstrate effective verbal communication skills, including but not limited to speaking effectively to members, providers, families and staff and listening to members, providers and families • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, and use time effectively and efficiently.

Effectively copes with change and uncertainty; responds and "shifts gears" comfortably • Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of both external and internal customers, acts with customers in mind • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, and gain their trust and respect • Uses logical methods to solve problems with effective solutions; looks beyond the obvious for solutions • Is action oriented and sees challenges as opportunities Education • Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in nursing is required • Master of Science in Nursing with concentration in midwifery is required Licensure/Certifications • Current RN licensure in state of practice required • Board certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife through the American Midwifery Certification Board is required • Current BLS certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required • DEA and CDS eligible Preferences • Certified Nurse Midwife Preferred • 2+ years’ experience as a CNM preferred • Labor and Delivery experience preferred Travel Requirements: Travel required • Must meet company driving standards • Must have valid state driver's license and be able to drive a car • Must meet company's automobile liability insurance standards and provide proof of coverage • Must be able to independently travel to assigned locations Physical and Psychological Demands: • Requires prolonged sitting • Requires bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, crawling and/or stretching from seated or standing positions • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment, computer tablet, computer keyboard, telephone, copier, calculator and other office equipment • Requires close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust visual focus, hearing and smelling • Must be able to communicate information via telephone or computer • Requires moderate to intense concentration due to complexity of the job • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
