Job Description
The Certified Medical Technician has technical knowledge and skill related to dispensing oral medications and performing minor treatment in accordance with the facility mission philosophy and as directed by the Facility Administrator.
The Certified Medical Technician is also a Certified Nursing Assistant and performs any or all of those tasks, as assigned by the charge nurse.
As a Certified Medical Technician you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Major Responsibilities
Adheres to established guidelines for medication administration.
Dispenses medication as prescribed by the physician and as directed by the charge nurse.
Prepares the individual medication doses from pre-packaged containers.
Selects correct medication from residents supply.
Verifies the identity of the medication and verifies the identity of the resident and records the information.
Verifies the date, dosage, route, and time for administering the medication.
Monitors the residents response to the medication and/or looks for possible adverse drug reaction and records the information.
Immediately reports medication error and drug reactions to the charge nurse.
Applies ear drops, eye drops, and nose drops as prescribed by the physician.
Applies ointments, creams and dressings to minor skin lesions as directed by a physician or charge nurse.
Gives medicinal baths and shampoos as prescribed by a physician.
Delivers nutritional supplements to residents as prescribed by a physician or delegated by a licensed charge nurse.
Reorders resident's medications form pharmacy to maintain an adequate supply or informs charge nurse of need to reorder.
Removes outdated or discontinued medications from carts, cabinets, and refrigerator.
Removes discontinued medications from the restraint's drug supply, attaches disposition form, and places medications in destruction area in accordance with current guidelines for discontinued medications.
Removes resident medications from all areas when resident is discharged, hospitalized, transferred to another facility, or expires.
Attaches a disposition form and places medication in appropriate containers in accordance with current guidelines.

Performs and monitors the appropriate transfer of residents, including the use of transfer equipment.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of basic aid practices and guidelines.
Ability to provide personal care for the frail elderly and for acute, chronic and terminally ill patients.
Ability to be called back and return to work when situations deem necessary.
Ability to wear and use a Gait Belt at all times.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Ability to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
Ability not to pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the work place.
Skill in the use of the sight/hearing senses or use of prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
Ability to meet the general health requirements set forth by the guidelines of the facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
Ability to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of three feet.
Exposure Level
It is highly likely that while performing the essential functions of this position you will be exposed to blood or body fluids.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Must be a licensed Certified Medication Technician.
One year of experience in healthcare.
